Radio Canal Revelation (image on the left) is an independent community radio based in Bunia. More than 30 volunteers staff the radio and produce programming in Lingala, Swahili and French languages.  The radio is heavily involved in the social development of the community, and programs target important concerns such as health, justice, conflict management and economic development.  The radio currently has a broadcast range of 90 km around Bunia.

Radio Ocean is a community radio station in Aru, in the north of Ituri.  Because Aru is  not within the normal broadcast range of our programming, we provide Radio Ocean CDs of our programs to transmit within their 5 km radius in Aru-town.

Radio La Colombe based in Mahagi, Ituri also broadcasts the programs within a 10 KM radius around Mahagi.

Installing antennas in Kpandroma In the fall of 2006 IRfJ started with the installation of new antennas in the mountainous region of Kpandroma, Ituri. After several delays caused by renewed fighting in the region between rebel and government forces, installation was completed in February 2007.  Now Canal Revelation, the principal community radio partner for IRfJ, has broadcast capability throughout the entire Ituri Province, as well as in the farthest southern region of Sudan and the farthest western region of Uganda.  To serve the expanded community of listeners, IRfJ programming is now produced in Lingala as well as in Swahili and French.

On 9 March 2007 IRfJ organized a public broadcast in Bunia to celebrate the production of the 25th program in the series. Authorities who normally participate in our programming were invited to listen to the broadcast together with the community, and then to answer questions from the audience after the broadcast.  Approximately 250 Bunians showed up and the debate after the broadcast lasted over two hours.  Authorities present included the ICC Deputy Prosecutor and Registrar, the MONUC Director and those responsible for Political Affaires and Human Rights monitoring at MONUC, the Prosecutor and Judge/President for the Tribunal of First Instance for Ituri, the Judge/President for the Military Court in Ituri, the Acting Commissioner for Ituri.

MUSIC FOR JUSTICE

blocks_image_2_1 Music for Justice encourages respect for rule of law and hope for reconciliation within the young population of Ituri.  Local music groups write and perform music for MfJ on the following themes: Respect for Rule of Law, Sexual Violence is a Crime, the Future for Youth after War, and Reconciliation and Peace. Songs are written in French, Swahili or Lingala languages.  CDs of this music are produced through the MfJ, which are played during all Interactive Radio for Justice programming.  The CDs are also distributed free-of-charge to radios throughout the Ituri and Kivus regions of the Democratic Republic of Congo.
